Beginning to See

A New View

About six months ago, I was talking with three of my coach friends from Connecticut. We’ve been “meeting virtually” on a monthly basis for many years and long before Zoom existed. I was in the midst of giving an update on a project that, for a variety of reasons, was taking longer than expected. I was very eager to have it done, however on that day, a more patient me provided this report:

“As I work on what’s necessary, I’m beginning to see what’s possible.”

As I work on:

what must be done first but I wish were done already,
what isn’t always that exciting to do,
what has some tedious components,
and what I thought would be done by now,

I’m beginning to see:

more than I could have imagined before I did this piece of work,
more than I thought would be possible,
something that is different,
and better than I originally planned.

Keep It Current

Mid-Year Retreat

Last month I attended an event at Mercy by the Sea in Madison, CT with fourteen other master trainers of OASIS in the Overwhelm. A full day of discussing how brain science validates the beneficial effects of even short periods of downtime was an invitation to create this space for me. I did this in the form of a two-part retreat: a day and a half in Norwich, CT with my friend Monica, followed by a day and a half in Exeter, NH with my sister Lori. Read more

How Is Your Dream Changing?

Living the Dream

Photo of Clark Terry

Clark Terry: Musician, composer and educator

A few weeks ago while looking for a movie to rent and in the mood for something uplifting, my husband and I opted for Keep on Keepin’ On, a documentary about trumpeter and jazz legend, Clark Terry. With a career that spanned over 70 years, Clark Terry is one of the most recorded musicians in the history of jazz. Read more

You’ll Know It Then

If You Knew Then…

Yesterday a friend told me about an event she attended where Michael J. Fox was a keynote speaker. He shared a story about how when he was in high school his “nanna” told him he’d be successful in the field of acting. Michael’s nanna was known to be right about such predictions so it was her certainty that caused his family to be supportive and bolstered his confidence in becoming an actor. Read more

You’ll Know It When You See It…Or Will You?

What Do Finding a Job and Dating Have in Common?

Last month, over fifty people joined us at the Jobing.com Phoenix office for the workshop: Now What? Go from Thinking About a Career Change to Acting On It. One of the thoughts I shared with the group is that in many ways, looking for your ideal job closely resembles dating. Some groans from the crowd ensued. Nevertheless, creating a wish list of the characteristics of your ideal job (or ideal mate) does two things: 1) It clarifies what’s most important to you; 2) It enables you to more easily recognize that custom-fit opportunity when it presents itself. Seeing Is Believing

Can You See It?

Ginny's business vision boardThis year, in addition to writing my goals on paper, I felt the need to see them in a bigger context, so I decided to create a vision board. I now have a colorful board hanging on a wall in my office that illustrates how I imagine my coaching business will evolve. In another room, I have a second vision board depicting some of the elements that bring me the most joy in my personal life and how I see those expanding. Read more

Becoming A Master Dreamer (Series Wrap Up)

Notes on Dreaming

We’ve been exploring the subject of dreaming.  Here’s a recap of the series: Read more

Is This Just A Dream?

(#5 in the series: Are You A Dreamer?)

The Haunting Question

In the last few issues, we’ve talked about suspending your “logic filter” long enough to imagine your dreams.  We’ve also acknowledged that some dreams simply serve to inform you about your deepest desires and are not meant to happen literally.  What about the dream that you actually would like to see come true?  When you experience a “That’s it!” moment and your dream is undeniably revealed to you, it can be exhilarating.  Your heart is pumping and your brain is brimming with ideas, but as you begin crossing the bridge from dream to reality, that protective filter reengages and the haunting question returns: What if this is just a dream? Let Your Dream Inform You

(#4 in the series: Are You A Dreamer?)

Are Dreams Lofty or Practical?

Sometimes dreams already exist inside (As far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to…) whereas other times you consciously develop a dream (In a few years, I can picture being…).  In either case, exactly what are you supposed to do with a dream once you have one? Read more
