Dad’s Words to Me

In the last year of my father’s life, it was necessary for him to have minor surgeries every few months. He rolled with these and recovered each time, able to enjoy the year with my mother in their new community where she was beginning to receive assisted living support. At this point, she was in the earlier stages of Alzheimer’s and they were able to participate in various social activities ranging from chair yoga to a singing group to dinners with new friends. The Two Questions I Asked God One Day

It was October 2018 and one month prior to taking my sabbatical. I sensed we were approaching the end of our chapter in Arizona and that the momentum was about to pick up on a potential move to Florida. Read more

What I Learned from My Sabbatical

Ginny wearing a beach hat

Greetings to you, my friends, and all good wishes for the new year and this new decade. It’s been 15 months since I wrote to you and shared my plans for sabbatical (see: Following the Current).

Even as I announced a six-month sabbatical, I had the feeling it would be a full year. Toward the end of last October, I was invited to speak to a group of coach colleagues about my sabbatical experience.

Here in today’s article are highlights from that presentation.

Do You Have To Know?

The Question was the Reminder

I often joke that Letting Go has been one of my lifelong lessons. I say this with self-compassion and a colorful, true-story collection of Letting Go mishaps and victories. I continue to practice the artful balance of control and letting go. Over the years, I’ve become more comfortable with change. I’ve learned to trust and even to enjoy many of life’s question marks. Lessons from the Labyrinth

Last Wednesday, while on a self-guided retreat at a local spa, I came upon a labyrinth, designed to inspire a walking meditation. Unlike those high-hedged corn mazes which, based on my sense of direction, would likely have me wandering through the hedges forever, this labyrinth was entirely in view. I set my bare feet on the warm pavement and began walking what first appeared to be a simple spiral. This spiral, however, was not comprised of evenly spaced, concentric rings and that’s part of what makes it a labyrinth. (1) Read more

Trusting Your Clarity

(#2 in the series: Trust is an Essential Element)

Today’s feature continues the theme introduced in: Trust is an Essential Element. I wrote this article in 2006; the now-ubiquitous quote from Steve Jobs aptly addresses the question of trust and clarity. Rixt Kuiper, the friend referenced below, tells me how much it affected her when I first shared the idea of trusting decisions you’ve made “in the light.”  She says it’s something that has stayed with her to this day. About Today’s Topic

Warm greetings to each of you! This first issue of the year is later than usual. As I mentioned in the 2015 Year End Reflection, my current attention and focus is with my mother who is peacefully living out her final days. During this time of quiet reflection by her bedside, I am connecting with one of the most essential elements of being in the current, and that is: Trust. I’ve selected a few articles on this theme from the In the Current collection, the first of which is below. Read more

All is Well

Resurfacing

It feels great to be writing again and reconnecting with you after a three-month absence. During this time, other than coaching work with active clients, it became necessary to put all other business activities on hold. Since I’ve never had to skip a single issue in seven years of writing this ezine, I found myself composing articles in my head and wishing I could transmit them to you instantaneously! Thank you to so many of you who reached out to see if everything was all right or to simply say that you missed hearing from me. I am finally digging out of my email pile-up and looking forward to responding to you individually. Read more

Have You Found The Entry Point?

Clarity Takes You There

“If this isn’t it, I trust it will lead there.” I smile when I hear someone I’m coaching say those words. Brenda is at the point of trusting the clarity she has received enough to move forward. This is especially significant as she’s been at the same crossroads six times before over the course of her life. Each time Brenda chose what felt like the more predictable path instead of what captured her interest the most. This time she is choosing differently. Read more

Where Do You Put Your Trust?

(Part 4 in the series: Can You Make It Happen?)

Trust

There is a lot of talk these days about both the government and the private sector breaking the public trust. This topic of trust is relevant to where we last left off in our discussion about “making it happen”. In part 3, I emphasized the importance of putting a healthy distance between you and what you desire. I called this having a level of trust and detachment. Today I’ll pose the question:

Where are you placing your trust? Read more
